Pawtuckaway Pond is actually quite a large body of water, don't let the name fool you. The water is fairly clear and there are both largemouth and smallmouth in this lake. There are feeder creeks and coves choked with pads, but I found all of my fish close to shore, tucked up against laydowns and nearby woody brushpiles. I used a weightless, texas rigged worm to work along laydowns and had a bunch of success with this technique. Look for bass to move up under the pads when the summer temps start to heat up.

Tough day on the Lake. Caught a few, but few and far between. Most were caught on soft jerkbait in heavy vegetation.

Winds were blowing 20+ which made fishing difficult in a kayak. I found an area where a point had a steep drop to 20 feet on one side and when the wind calmed down I was able to see loads of perch following my jerkbait. I stayed in this area trying different cadences until I landed on about a 5 second pause and then two very light jerks which started to trigger bites. No large fish were caught, but I managed 4 largies in the 2lb range in a matter of 30 minutes before finally calling it a day.
