Couple little largemouth and a northern tonight. It was really slow this evening, summer patterns seem like they’ve shut off but they definitely aren’t in the fall feeding frenzy yet. One bass on a frog alongside a dock and the other two hit a chatterbait on the fall.

Weed edges and clumps, wacky dropshot produced quality and several bites and an outkast chicken jig produced biggest bite of the evening over scattered weed clumps.

Once Summer hits on this lake, there are two predominant patterns for quality & quantity of bass bites. Finesse fishing on deep weed edges and bottom transition areas with jig worms, drop shots and neko rigs. Fish light line & often times super slow is the best. Your other alternative is to flip thick milfoil and coontail clumps with heavy punch rigs or jigs and cover water until you can find mini-schools. Natural colors seem best on this lake.

Find the deep grass line (8-12 ft) and look for thicker clumps and hard defined edges. My dad put a hurting on them ripping a chatterbait through the top of the grass. I fished slow dragging a Carolina rig and a drop shot off the edge of the grass. It wasn’t hot and heavy, but when you got bit there were usually a few fish in the same area.

Docks
The summer dock bite can be very good. Look for the docks with deeper water adjacent to them and ones that provide the most shade. Take a wacky rig or jig and skip it as far back as you can get it. The harder it is to get to the spot the better as those fish haven't seen as many baits. They will typically hit it on the fall or shortly after you begin your retrieve. This can be a fun way to fish shallow when the bite is on.
