I went to Mackenzie Reservoir at sunrise and started with moving baits in the areas with open water and just a bit of submerged vegetation. The bite started off good with the Hazedong Shad swimbait on the Okashira screwhead. I really like the action with the propellers on the Okashira. I then switched over to a Texas Rigged D bomb in the Super Bug color with a 1/4 oz flipping weight. I fished the D bomb in the areas with heavy matted grass. I highly recommend using a medium heavy rod with 30-40lb braid to a 15-20lb fluorocarbon leader, otherwise you risk losing the fish and your lures/line. Ended up with 5 bass in about 2 hours.

Tons of Crappie, Bluegill, and Perch at Mackenzie Reservoir just about everywhere on the lake. Best way to catch them is with a plastic grub on a 1/32oz jighead, or you can go to a 1/16oz if it is windy. The 3/4” T-Rips also work great. Cast out in the areas with the long grass/reeds in the water and retrieve the lure as slow as you can. Another method that worked very well for the crappie specifically is letting the lure drop to the bottom, reel in a bit, let it drop down again and repeat.

I went out a few hours before sunset after it had rained earlier in the afternoon. They dropped the water level of the reservoir down a few feet so now there is a lot of room to fish from the bank (a little muddy though). The matted grass on the surface of the water has made its way to the shore but there are still some patches here and there to cast near. Now that the bank has opened up keep moving until you find the fish. I tried several techniques but all my fish caught were on a wacky or texas rig. Senkos and brush hogs were the bait of choice in various sizes. The Watermelon Copper/Orange Red Laminate color caught me the biggest bass I've caught all month, 2lb 10oz. In total I caught 10 bass with the majority of them being between 1-2 lbs.

I went to Mackenzie Reservoir the day after it had rained and the fish were biting like crazy. The main bait of choice was the Megabass Hazedong Shad in Green Pumpkin on an Okashira jighead fished slower than usual. Other techniques that worked were 3” Texas Rigged Senkos and 4” Wacky Rigged Senkos in the green pumpkin w/ black flake color. Best areas to fish were near the grass lines and out in open water. The fish were very active so casting in the areas where blowups were happening on the top of the water caught me some fish as well. I caught 12 Largemouth and 1 Crappie with the biggest bass being 2lb 7oz.
