We recently placed 3rd in the Auburn University ACA College Tournament on Logan Martin flipping wood and throwing a shallow diving crankbait. We started the morning flipping a Berkley MaxScent Creature Hawg around shallow lay downs with deep water access. We then transitioned to fishing shallow rock with a Berkley Frittside as the morning bite slowed. Cranking shallow rock filled out our limit for the day, while flipping gave us the quality bites we needed to have a good finish.

The fish were tight to wood cover and the current helped position them on the bank in ambush points. You may have to throw by a laydown 3 times before one commits.

Caught them in 3 feet and less using a blade bait and an umbrella rig. Find pockets with bait fish and the bass will have them pushed up shallow.

The Auburn Bass Team hosted its first collegiate tournament of the season this past month. The team had great success doing a variety of techniques. I personally found fish hanging around docks that intercepted the river channel. These docks had current that had the bass ready to feed. I noticed lots of suspended bluegill which led to me throwing a natural color jig. When I made this change I began getting more bites and ended catching a bunch of fish.
