2 years ago, one of the Omnia Fisherman told me to rely on the Senko when the bass bite is stingy and to select colors based on water quality. This is a lake where the pike outnumber bass by 10:1 so the bass can be hard to coax. In 3 outings, I have landed 1 pike and 11 bass, including this dam dweller using wacky rigged senko and medium heavy diawa tatula rod. Thanks for all the help!

I had a toothy critter break me off cleanly on a wacky rigged senko as well as a fluke. Slow finesse is carrying the day. Normally I’m able to sense the bite and hook set quickly but these two fish clobbered my baits this evening.

Fluke bite is on in the shallows. Pike and bass are stacked up against the reeds, ambushing bait fish. Daiwa Samurai 6’6” Medium Moderate Daiwa Emcast Power Pro 30lb moss green

Slow retrieve. Patient hook sets. Aggressive hook sets will pull the bait out and put fish off generally. Northern Pike are coming in at 24"-29" range. Bass haven't left the nests and aren't feeding quite yet.

Water is warming. I landed 2 northern pike. No other strikes (19" and 30"). Bass are beginning to cruise solo as water warms up quickly. These may be females off the nest. The bass are hugging the reeds where many small bluegill and carp minnows are harboring. algae is blooming and beginning to surface in very small pockets. I'll begin targeting bass very early mornings beginning 5/27 and I'll have an update then.

Got up bright and early to target bass. I saw one bass in the water and ended up with 3 northern pike. 2@30” and 1@20”. Was on water at 0530. Bite heated up at 0700.

Water has cooled down and slowed the algae as benefitted by recent rainfall. The reeds are well flooded. But the fish are well fed by nature. Plastics are hardly cutting it here. I did manage 1 northern pike while targeting bass. And the sunset was beautiful.

Northern pike are getting finicky. The Zoom Fluke still rules the day with another 26” fish at dusk last night. Bass aren’t touching the Zoom Fluke so next week, I will commit to a change in tactics even if. That means 0 fish. It’s time to target Bass. The challenge there will be that nature is providing plenty of feed.
