Smallies are starting to feed up for the winter here in Central Wisconsin. You'll be able to find them sitting on top and near rock piles. Football jigs, Texas Rigged, Neg Rigged, anything small. Throw it pass the rock piles and slowly retrieve it back towards you. If you're hitting the Wisconsin River, red, black and yellow crank are working good. Find any deep holes and slowly work that area.

I fished in the WKFC's kayak bass tournament on July 16th. When it was still too foggy to see, a few of us paddled to the Wausau Dam in search of some good smallmouth bass. I ended up finding fish, but nothing big enough to place in the tournament. The hot baits for me were a ned rig with Zman TRD in the California Craw color and a blue/black Zman Jackhammer chatterbait. I would have liked to catch some bigger fish but it was a great time and a nice looking place to fish.

Early ice fishing is here! Crappies are being found within 6-10 FOW. Go to baits right now are plastics. Ice are about 3 inches in some area of Lake Wausau but go with cautious at all time.

Most my catches were made around bluegill park, directly across from the launch and working the edge with a crankbait moving towards the Schofield dam area. Other people with me had a lot of luck by the north dam and caught bigger quality fish than I.

Tis the season of Ice fishing! Head out on Lake Wausau to see if we were able to find some pan fish. Started off slow at Radket Point with a few bites but nothing big. Was able to get a decent crappie out of there. Decided to move to the culver by the golf course and blue gils are stock there right now! Just using some wax worm will do the trick! Ice thickness right now is about 4-5 inches in most area.
