It was cold, windy and partly cloudy. I was covering water from parks and piers with a Chrome Rattle trap, chrome blue fox, and various Senkos. I work and area for about 30 mins and move on. All three fish today came on the Lipless, straight slow crank, no jig/lift and drop. Fish are in about 15-20 feet of water. Mostly males. You’ll see the fish chasing schools of what I believe are trout fry. First smallie of the season. 1 of four for the morning. Looks to have been making a bed. It’s about that time y’all ! Tight lines! Was out searching for early season bass, and keep running into schools of cookie cutter trout. So I’m bringing along my finesse tackle and UL spin rod.. I’m getting 6-10 inch trout all morning. On Strike King bitsey baits, and Matzuo minnows. I’ve also started bringing along my S waver in Trout. Any time I start seeing bass pushing the Trout, I pull the S waver through them. Can’t be long till I get a fat slab.

Rock Pile
Caught on a rocky edge. About 4-5 feet of water with a medium retrieve on the spark shad. Let that bait hit bottom and lift up about 6 inches before retrieving. This is the biggest one i caught.

Found this fella around a stump and other branches. Choppy & muddy water conditions. 3-5 ft of water. Kept the worm about 2-3ft from the surface.

Docks
Caught around wood piles and brush in 2-3 feet of water. Same spot as my last catch (around the dock). Still surprised how sharp and durable this spinner bait is. Smacked it a couple times on the dock skipping underneath and it held strong.

Another lunch trip casting from the bank. The fish are easy to find this time of year. Caught fish throwing the 6th sense speed glide in Gill. A custom 3.75 perch glide from Forbitten Baits. Also Might still be available from Dark Horse Tackle site. The good old reliable, a Texas Rig-Watermelon Black flake 5” senko On a 4/0 Mustad EWG. Weightless. I pinch, rub and twist the whole worm, just short of breaking it. Take all the glossy look off.

Bank fishing Local Parks on the east side. Fish were cruising the grass lines near the boulder walls, and gravel area of the beach. Spin Rod, med, fast, 8lb InvizX, I use a 1/6 bullet weight, no stopper. To a Texas rigged 5” baby bass senko. Slow reel dragging the bottom, it feels like a grass snag till they, tap tap tap, reel down until they start to try and pull the other way, then set the hook with a sweep, hard set popping the rod caused a few misses before I figured it out. They almost set the hook for you, you just give it that last bit and a hard reel. Winner of the Shane Flint outdoors west division. #SFOBIGBASS 2023
