Slow trolling jigs, anchoring where they concentrated along steep shoreline breaks (17 - 27 feet of water). 7 of us caught 227 walleye and 6 jumbo perch in 12 hours of fishing

As of fishing opener weekend, water temps were in the mid to upper 50s in most of Vermilion with a few smaller bays peaking into low 60s. Water is about a foot low & water color is as clear as I have ever seen it. Vast majority of both bass species are in Pre Spawn mode, but lake is warming fast & so are the bass. For the most part smallmouth are on shallow boulder areas leading into spawning pockets. Jerkbaits in natural patterns with some chartreuse & perch imitating chatterbaits both produced well. We found largemouth hanging around emerging pads & old reed beds. Black & Blue Swim jigs were the most productive for finding & catching chunky largemouth

Dusk fishing from rocky shore. Slow retrieve with a Northland Tackle Mimic Minnow perch swim jig. Let it sink, slow reel, stop and sink, slow reel. VERY subtle bite. Caught and released.

Fishing north shorline rock flats and subtle points, 6-8 foot of water has been best for me. Jig n minnow or a bobber for the eyes and some smallies mixed, square bills are catching both bass and walleyes! Good luck this weekend!

Fish were shallow, long pauses and hitting that jerkbait into the rocks triggered bites

The water was super cold. Had to fish very slow. When you got a bite, power pole down and not move. Long cast with long pauses was the key.
