The key for finding these fish was looking for the deeper banks with a mix of boulders and gravel that was windblown and with as little vegetation as possible.

Good chasing smallmouth around in shallow water, twitching and cranking shallow running crankbaits. Areas of visible rock were easy to target with a mix of cranks. Twitching the original Rapala floater was the most fun because some were willing to strike on the surface. Post-spawn fish were active throughout the day but had to cover a lot of water looking for the bigger fish. Drop-off areas near boulders held most of the bigger fish.

We fished the Anglers Choice Northern Division tournament on Nokomis and cut a small 6th place check with 13.55#s. Fishing was over all pretty tough and we located one group of fish on a small rock point that we were able to make hay on early in the morning. Fish were scattered from the grass line to the old river channel. We primarily caught our fish on 3/8 ounce Dirty Jigs Compact pitching pitching jigs, but could snipe a few on flukes and a speed craw on a Carolina rig as well.
