Launched in Jacks creek, and worked the cypress trees along the north shoreline; was up in the timber and located fish in the deeper areas (holes) amongst the trees. Tossed shakyhead rig up against the trees letting it fall to the base of the tree before slowing hopping it away. The fish were either at the base and took the worm on the fall or picked it up on the first or second hop from the tree.

2023 Bassmaster Elite - Santee Cooper. In practice I was catching fish shallow on a swim jig, frog an chatterbait. That bite really faded on me as the tournament started so I switched up and threw a wacky rig on cypress trees during the second half of day one and the entire day on day 2. Day 2 was much better. Had 20lbs and almost slipped into the day 3 cut. a touch deeper trees in 2-4ft with some eel grass nearby was key.

Bluebird skies, high pressure had the bite pretty difficult to come by; after trying several different techniques with little no success I switched things up pulling out a trench hawg but putting it on a light Owner twist lock hook and threw to areas shaded by the shore line foliage on cypress trees out in the water. This 4 3/4# chunk hit my creature bait on the fall in less than two feet of water. I had it tied on to 8# Shimano Mastiff flouro-carbon that has done great in handling big bass for me, with very little stretch it is easy to control the fish.

The Fish have been spawning really well for the last couple weeks on Lake Marion and the bite has been on fire! The fish are in all three stages of the spawn and fishing cypress trees with a wacky worm has been the deal!
