Rock River—June 19–The River finally warmed up enough for the bass to get shallow. We caught a mixed bag including a handful of bass on soft paddle-tail swimbaits on a jighead.

May 30–With the water still being somewhat cold, I tied on a spinnerbait and slow-rolled it around lay downs. We didn’t get many hits, but this one was almost 4 lbs so it paid off.

Rock River—October 17/24–My dad and I went out for some fall walleye and ended up catching 8-10 nice walleye on jig-and-plastic presentations. We had to fish pretty slow since it was close to freezing temps outside, but it was worth it. We focused on deep holes and channels. I then hit a local pond and used a Megabass Vision 110 to catch a half dozen largemouth on shoreline drop offs.

Rock River—September 6–This was by far the best bass fishing weekend of the year on the River. Between crank baits, spinnerbaits, and soft swimbaits, I caught about a dozen largemouth and smallmouth up in shallow rocks and wood. This solid largemouth came on a Swimbait. Also caught a bonus channel cat on the swimbait!

Rock River—August 7–The River was as warm as a bathtub, which made fishing tough. We caught some other random species, and then I caught this big smallie (about 3 lbs) on a black and purple chatterbait in the grass. I was fishing it pretty slow.

I only have basic trolling equipment, but we were able to catch a lot of walleye trolling just above idle using a specific bait: Berkeley Flicker Shads. I was also able to pick up a nice sauger on a Rapala Shad rap. Trolling down main channels and over rock transitions proved very effective.

In the summer I had success just downriver from the lake using a jig-n-minnow around docks to pull walleye and sauger out of the shadows. Docks that provided the best current breaks worked best as well as the bridge pilings. It was key to maintain bottom contact with small hops in order to stay in the strike zone. Places where there were small depressions in the bottom held fish.

In the fall I cranked around docks and boat lifts and produced some pike and bass. It was key to bump the bottom with the squarebills but also pause every now and then to let it rise. I generally paused it right next to the corner poles of the structure and that got some good bites.
