Smallmouth were on rock piles in 12-16 foot of water, seemed the slower you moved the dropshot back to the boat, the better. Lots of boat pressure lead to this slow technique working.

There was a 9 mile wind and I was on the windblown side trowing the whopper up next to docks and around submerged timber. I was also skipping the football jig under the pontoons and really slowly shaking it.

Perch
Last day of Sept. sunny day, water temp was 65-66. Bass were active in 5-10' cruising flats, on top of ledges, and schooling on weed edges where there was baitfish, especially small perch. If you caught one you'd usually catch multiple in the same spot. Lots of Largemouth (1-3lbs) with the occasional Smallmouth. Soft body swimbaits had the most bites. Crankbaits, underspins, & spinnerbaits did alright. Chatterbait, lipless, and topwater (walking & prop) didn't have as much success.

Baitfish
Fall feed is on! Very windy out the lake today, had to pick and choose spots on the calm side. Bounced around before landing on a large flat with a couple piles of bait being chased around. Buzzbait and spook were dynamite, throw it right on top of a the bait balls and the bass were hammering it. Mixed in a few on the swim jig cruising around looking for feeding bass.

Largemouth and smallmouth in small schools on isolated clumps of green grass. Most grass has died off but the living grass had baitfish and bass nearby.

Submerged Vegetation
Finding the greenest vegetation near points or breaks on the biggest structures in 7-14 feet of water was key. Pitching a jig into grass and short hopping it was effective for pulling large numbers and quality fish into the boat, if hopping and pausing was no longer getting bites, alternating between hops and dragging would get bit almost every time. The fish had definitely started to school, and if you could get one to commit, the rest of the school would turn on.

Ned Rigs
Structure
Rock Pile
A bit windy and intermittently cloudy the other day, but Ned rigs worked well when slow dragged along the bottom edge of a deeper rocky break, somewhere around 18-24 ft deep. If you can identify a small flat or other anomaly on the break and use that as a starting point. The best spots had rock that extended both up and down the entire break and a small flat or other minor change at some point along the break. Staying out of the wind proved beneficial, not only to allow the bait to remain stationary at times, but the bite was better on the slightly more protected structure. Adding a small amount of chartreuse to the baits was also beneficial.
