Got to explore Lake Hawkins for the first time this past weekend with a good friend of mine. We had overcast skies for most of the day with a light wind early that progressively picked up throughout the day. Water temperatures throughout the lake seemed to be in the mid sixties. We caught a lot of fish doing various things, unfortunately we only had one good bite which was a 4.5 lb'er that my friend caught on a spook. We got most of our bites fishing the far outside grass line which usually was between 7-12 ft. With the conditions the way they were the fish were really active and chasing bait. The two baits that worked the best for this were a topwater walking bait and a chatter bait. The fish did not seemed to be schooled up quite well as the bites were with in an area but random at the same time. As the water continues to cool down they should start to group up better. We also caught a few fish on a frog up shallow, as well as a drop shot and scrounger head out deep. However, the fish didn't really seem to be in either of those area's as much as they were on the outside grass edge. As the water continues to cool baits like an Alabama rig, jerkbait, rattle trap, etcetera should become big players fishing the grass edges.

I was getting ready to leave the lake and just had this felling in my gut that I had to stop and give it a try where the inlet pipes enter Hawkins lake from white oak creek and was flowing in a good amount of water from the down poor's we have had from last night and on and off all day to day. Just right about dark with a jointed hard swimbait in the current and it come straight up and hit the bait right after it had just hit the water and completely destroyed the bait with it hard hit
