In late winter, just before largemouth get active for pre-spawn a great technique is to finesse them with a drop shot. This works especially well in frontal conditions. Since you're dealing with potentially huge fish, you'll want a pretty heavy finesse set up. I like 10lb braided seaguar 832 main line with a 10lb seaguar invisx leader. The owner covershot hook is perfect for this technique tipped with your favorite straight tail work, I prefer the zoom trick worm. The trick is to find thick isolated clumps of hydrilla on your side imaging and target those with accurate casts. You may loose a few because of the light set up, but you'll also get bit when nothing else will work.

We managed to catch a few tossing Texas rigged craws along weed edges. Pretty slow tho. Some luck was had throwing Carolina rigs along offshore weed edges or shell beds. Mainly senkos but some on speed worms.

Managed to catch a few decent fish fishing on offshore shell beds. Very slow. There was a cold front that came through which caused the fish to not want to cooperate. If you slowly drug the Carolina rig along shell beds or weed edges, they would bite. Very soft bites.

It was another tough day on the water. Fished with a buddy who was practicing for an upcoming BFL tournament event this Saturday. Found several bucks roaming the canals. Still too early to be looking for bedding fish. Fished submerged vegetation on Harris to no avail. Went shallow and fished shallow vegetation throughout the afternoon on Lake Harris and Lake Eustis. Managed only a few bites throwing Z-Man Jackhammer and Original Chatterbaits and Texas rigging Missile Baits D'Bombs and Strike King Rage Bugs. If you're going to fish the canals, look for isolated pieces of vegetation along the bulkheads and flip a Texas rig or Tokyo rig with some type of creature bait. It's tough on the Harris Chain right now but in a few weeks to a month the bite should start firing up.

The Florida bass seem to be starting to push up to spawn. However, when a cold front moves through and we get those colder mornings, it seems like many of them will push back offshore. I’ve found that brush piles outside of main spawning canals seem to hold consistent fish. Cranking through the piles has been my go to for these fish.

Mid january cold front conditions. Very windy, and sunny. Air temp 40-50 water temp 59-62. Best pattern was targeting fish on livescope outside of pads and grass.
