Finding grass clumps with sparse grass around was key. YO-YO a trap in and around the clams produced quality and size.

It seems like the cold front that came through had the fish feeding really well on jerkbaits in Beauclair. The key was finding isolated clumps of grass. If you can find mixtures of eel grass and other submerged vegetation like hydrilla, the bass seem to hold better on it. It was definitely a numbers game, as a lot of the time, you’d have to weed through the little ones to get those bigger bites.

Shallow spawn bite was tough last weekend for the BFL on Lake Harris but the key was slowing down and wacky rigging a gambler Ace in Green Pumpkin around docks and sparser cover. The key was using a small nail weight in the tail section to allow the bait to get past the snot grass and get to the bottom a tad bit quicker So I could attack more targets quicker in a days time. When approached with thicker cover, I Would employ the exact same bait with a Scenko Stix 7’3” MH rod, 8:1 reel, 18 lb Flourocarbon, 4/0 Straight Shank hook, 3/16 Oz sinker and milk the areas.
