The Shadow Rap Deep Jerkbait in Ghost Shiner color was the ticket to a successful day on Lake George, NY. Largemouth, Smallmouth, and a Lake Trout were caught in 58-60 degree water temperature with a slight breeze from the Southeast. The most consistent bite pattern came from casting the jerkbait outside shallow water markers towards the main lake in 12-15 fow and near points from the main lake to the bays. Look for rock flats and boulders near drop offs and cast from shallow to deep for a bigger Bass bite. Smaller Black bass were caught in 4-6 fow using a Charlie Brewer Slider Grub with 1/8 oz Keitech tungsten jig head.

Working a deep diving Jerkbait with quick twitches, switching up the cadence often but majority of bites came on the pause. Suspended fish working 5-15 FOW around the bridges and piping’s. Definitely had little bite windows when I’d get bit cast after cast. But they are definitely chasing and fat, healthy fishing moving into the shallow bays. After about 20-30 minutes of not getting but I occasionally got bit on a ned rig in the same areas. Bridge near Norowal Marina

Boulders
With the smallmouth transitioning through the spawning stage, they can be targeted effectively by casting jerkbaits along sand flats making casts specifically at large boulders and wood that can be seen by the eye or with forward facing sonar.

When I located smallmouth on beds they couldn’t resist a drop shot with a chartreuse bait. We found most beds along pieces of rock and wood on sand flats.

Submerged Vegetation
I covered my favorite technique for summer smallmouth on lake George in a previous review. This will be my 2nd favorite technique. I was fishing on the north end of the lake and I was marking fish in 12 feet of water over heavy vegetation. So I was using a ned rig it consisted of a ned rig jig head and a small yum ned crawfish. It was only about an 1 1/2" long and was green pumpkin. I wouldnt jig it or work it at all i would send it down to the bottom and then close my bail and wait and you would see the line start to run a little and then i would set the hook and the fight was on.

Points
Last summer I fished 2 kayak bass fishing tournaments on lake George and the majority of my success came from 2 techniques. I will discuss 1 here and the other in a separate review. The month was August and it was very warm both air temperature and water temperature. The fish pushed out deep and catching them became a struggle. I found the smallmouth were sitting in 40 feet of water around the points of the various islands on lake George. So I tied a Texas rig with a heavy worm weight and put a 3 inch plastic crawfish on it and I would drop it straight down. It would hit the bottom and I would send out lots of extra line then put my rod in its holder and start peddling my kayak around and then as I was pretty much trolling I would get the bite. I ended up catching a lot of smallmouth between 19-21 inches this way.

Jigging in 50 some feet with a small mushroom head jig with a rabid baits fox shot. Had to rip the jig pretty quickly to not give them a good look at the bait since it was 30 to 40 feet of visibility.
