It was cold Saturday morning and square bill around rock produced a few bites. Punching mats with the incredi-bug also produced some good fish. Working a 7.5 culprit original worm around boat docks in Pataula creek produced the best bites!

The bass are pushing up In big waves. I’ve been catching numbers in the submerged grass on a shad colored swim jig and just off the bank grass with a Texas Rig Craw. As the water temperature heats up, so will the bigger bites. Tight Lines.

Points
Finding points with hard bottom or rock structure was where most bites were generated. Cranking close to the bank and really getting that bait to bounce off structure got bites to fill a limit. Harder to get a bigger bite but downsizing line and getting that bait a little deeper in the water column helped to increase weight.

I fished a Bassmaster open on Eufaula in Early March. There were still some pre-spawn fish that were grouped up offshore that I was targeting with a Rapala DT-10 through a DT-16 depending on depth. Key areas were near spawning pockets on secondary points. If there was a ledge or a harder bottom spot, that made it even better. Livescope was critical to see where the groups of bass were, they were moving around following schools of shad. I was using a St Croix Legend Glass 7'4" MH Moderate, and the Mojo Bass Glass in the same action will be a good rod for it too. I used 12lb test Invizx line and gamakatsu size 4 round bend trebles. I liked the Disco Shad color in clear water and Caribbean in dirtier water.

I was fishing points with shell, throwing a 1/8th oz green pumpkin shakey head on the bank in 2 foot dragging it all the way out to 15 feet. The key to getting bites was the slow fall. This pattern also worked under docks with 4-7 feet of water under them

Most active fish were found staging on the points nearest to swapping flats. Best luck was had throwing small crank baits. Flat sides worked best with the colder temps.

Look like the bass are moving up to stage for the spawn. Large mouth on crankbait, and spots on jigs.
