Use your electronics to find areas with boulders. Then troll around looking for fish. Once a school is found spot lock or anchor and vertically jig with a minnow or a Dubuque rig. Hair jigs will also be effective.

The fall bite is in full swing. Current is the key. With changing discharge rates, areas that had current yesterday didn't have them today. Used mainly a Ned rig, but also caught fish on a tube. I also worked a crankbait without success.

Gravel or rock ledges with deep water nearby were holding fish. I used a Ned rig to locate the fish, and then worked the area with a Gobius. A painfully slow drag, feeling it bump off the rocks. The Gobius produced the bigger fish.

Anywhere you can find current with deep water (10'+) nearby you will find fish. Most fish today were close to shore. Cast the ned rig upstream and let the current pull it, keeping your line tight enough to feel the strike. Drop-shot with a power minnow also caught fish.

Was hoping for a crankbait bite because this time of year is a good time to do some cranking. Instead I spent that day painfully beating the bank with a ned rig. I would let it sink to the bottom and let it sit with no action for as long as possible, this technique mixed with a slow drag produced every fish I caught. Nothing to brag about but I’ve been slowly trying to learn the river and it was nice to actually locate a few fish. Better than a bad day at work they say.

We are still about 1-2 weeks from a true fall pattern
