It was a topwater day with boys and surprisingly found them in the shallows late morning through mid day on the edges of weed beds and floating cattails...for a 1/2hour time it was asthma and furious with hits almost every cast...lots of missed fish as I was teaching my kids how to fish topwater....I was able to pull in several nice fish with the largest being 18"+...slower retrieve with a yum toad in pumpkin with red flecks as a trailer...

Spent the day fun Fun fishing with the family and wanted to introduce my kids to the fun of topwater fishing. With a light breeze we fished the calm side of the lake with Berkley Choppos of all sizes in with dark natural colors with very nice results. Everyone got in on the action adn we pulled in about a dozen fish in about a 2 hour span late morning. I personally caught 4 fish between 17" - 18" in 3' - 5' of water..

Top water action with frogs was the hot ticket for the hour or so before sunrise. Hits almost every cast. Fish were attacking frogs and swimbaits near the surface. There was no wind and fog was present. Lost several hook ups due to not being ready. Fish were hitting some baits before they hit the surface of the water...and other times they trailed the bait as I pulled the bait out of the water for the next cast. Even pulled fish to the surface from depths of 10-5 feet. Some hits were full breach and some a lazy slurp...it was an intense morning....bite fell off after sunrise and I switched to swim jigs with frog and craw trailers...

The bite was hot this morning. Found fish in 5 to 10ft of water on the drop from matted weed floats...all fish caught in the 15" -18" range and for a while it was almost every cast...brown football skirted jig with green yum toad trailers...

The sunfish were on the drop at 8 feet and that's where the bass were, i was casting the Pop R parallel to the weed line.

It was tough out there....not going to lie....after getting stood up for the first two hours I resorted to sight fishing bedded bass in the shallows....even more frustrating is that I couldn't get those to take a bait until late morning...lots of dinks and sunfish...had a couple scorable....slim picking today..
