A 1/8th ounce moon eye jig paired with a largo shad in any baitfish looking color will outfish live minnows and catch just about anything on eagle lake. This 36 inch pike had my moon eye jig all the way down its mouth but luckily the 10lb shimano mastiff has enough abrasion resistance to hold up against those nasty sharp teeth!

Dropshotting a live minnow for walleye is a deadly tactic when the old faithful jig and minnow isn’t working. This rig excels when the sun is out and the water is that much clearer as it is one of the most natural ways to present a minnow. Fish this rig around anywhere you would normally fish a jig and minnow and you will see results. Do not be surprised if you also catch the occasional large pike or bass as they also will get fooled by this killer rig.

The secret to big pike in the spring in Canada is the chartreuse white big blade chatterbait with a white Kalins mogambo grub on the back. Fish this exact bait in and out of pencil reeds or weedy banks and you are bound to get hammered by as many 30+ inch pike as you want. A good leader is a necessity as these pike normally engulf the whole bait and big blade chatterbaits are not cheap! A straight retrieve with the occasional bump or tick is the best way that I found to fish it.
