Fish were up shallow in the morning feeding and slid out to deeper structure and grass on deep flats later on in the day. Fish were not wanting to move as much once they got on structure meaning you had to put your bait right onto them and let it drop through them.

In the early days of fall, try throwing a black buzz bait along lay downs and points in the Obey River arm of the lake. This is a great tactic for an early morning bite!

The large schools of smallmouth are starting to disperse as they transition into their spawning locations. Main lake points can be productive with slow sinking/moving swimbaits.

Fish were using cover on flats adjacent to the main river channel to ambush bait. There were small bite windows in the morning and afternoon where bass would pull up on these flats to feed. The largemouth and smallmouth would mix together and setup on isolated pieces of cover near the channel swing. During the day, the bass would become inactive on the flats, but you could occasionally find them under bait balls on the main lake

Reservoir Conditions: Fishing is good. The water temperature is 44.5 degrees and the lake is falling. Smallmouth Bass: Lots of smallmouth are being caught on live baits and jigs while fishing steeper banks in 20-35 feet of water.
