Tough morning after 4 warm days a cold front came through which brought rain and high winds. Large mouth were cruising up shallow in 2-5 ft of water. Weren’t interested in much. Got the Lm pictured on a tube next to a dock, in clearing in the submerged veg. Also got a decent pickerel on a jig.

Post-spawn moving into the heat of summer can lead to some tough days on the water. When I need to slow things down a bit, one of my Go-To baits is a Xzone Fat Finesse worm or the Deception worm paired with a shakey head jig. I like to start off my morning pitching this combo around docks then move off-shore to the deeper ledges as things warm up. Watch out for the pleasure boaters though, this lake gets busy!

Targeted schools of small mouth on deep humps and ledge breaks around 28-33 feet. Worked the bait between 3-6 feet above the bottom and they would come up off the bottom to eat. Schools were not actively chasing bait balls, sticking closer to desired structure.

They were stuck to the bottom but schooled up. Using 2D sonar or Live scope to identify the rock piles has been effective. Jiggle the minnow about 3-4 feet above the pile and they could come off the bottom to munch it. I did catch a couple on a 3.5" spunk shad, but they CRUSHED the Yum FF Sonar Minnow!
