Had to try January open water fishing. I figured it would be slow but was pleasantly surprised by a 1/2 dozen of these 2 pounders. No boat battling when water and air temps are below 40:-)

Gave it a shot from early evening until 1:30 AM but flood waters dirtied the lake and made the night tough

Fish still hanging around the bait. Find the bait, find the fish. Used various shad immitations primarily trolling. Used Bomber Fat Free shad catch this one. Others caught using dipsey diver to get down to depth. Fish have to eat.. don't let the cold water scare you off.

Covered a ton of water looking for fish. Everything was spread out and trolling seemed like a good option as the water had cooled of quite a bit in the last week. Didn't get a single bite from 7Am until about 3 PM, then I was able to get 3 whites in the 1-4 pound family on a Bone colored Flicker Shad (shown)

Trolling Flicker shads seem to work well on this body of water for various species mimmicing shad. Was rewarded with a nice 15" crappie today. Only a handful of people willing to fair the 45deg morning weather.
