Small Perch are everywhere, but you gotta weed through tons of little ones before you can find a keeper. It seems like the deeper you go, the better chance at some keeper Perch or some Walleye. 20-40 feet of water depending on the exact spot seems to be the best place to go.

When I fish from my kayak on chautauqua lake I like to travel up the chadakoin river and fish the lay downs though there I find a lot of success throwing square bill crankbaits particularly the chartreuse strike kings I have caught a lot of largemouth in a day this way but also nice quality bass as well.

When I ice fish on chautauqua lake for perch or gills I usually fish in 10 feet of water. I use small tungsten jigs tipped with minnow heads and they produce yellow perch between 10-13 inches. Of course you will catch a ton of dinks but you just have to weed through them to get the nice ones.

Used a swimjig while searching for better grass. Once we got bit on the swimjig we slowed down and flipped the submerged grass. Had about 15#s but caught 20-25 fish on the day.

Right after ice out on chautauqua lake the crappie travel into the canals. My favorite way to catch them is tying on a 1/16 oz jig head with a small Bobby Garland shad in the chartreuse color and fishing it two feet below a foam float.
