It took me a while to figure the fish out as shad were breaking the surface all over the lake, but I found some grass/pads that had survived the cold front we had come thru in the Midwest and got a few on the Fluke. I was throwing a donkey rig (double fluke rig) with one pearl and one pink just to try it, but I don’t think the pink made a difference as the fish hit the pearl every time. Bring on the fall weather!

Shad
Really tough bite. Especially frustrating with bass blowing up on shad blowing up all around you. Threw around a Super Spook Jr. chasing the shad, but only got swiped at once. Put that down and covered a ton of water with a squarebill, got a few, but nothing of great size.

TONS of shad up shallow, and I mean TONS. I snagged one that was probably 12 inches. That made it TOUGH, but it was worth the wait because big mama bit my 6th Sense Crush 50x right before I needed to get off the water. I was targeting shallow rip rap in the extremely dirty water hitting every rock I possibly could and that's what seduced Bertha.

The water is starting to warm up and the temperature outside is rising. Fish are becoming very active pre spawn and chasing moving baits like spinnerbaits, swim jigs, and crankbaits. Fish can be found in and around areas of cover like lily pads that are growing.
