Fished the open holed areas in the grass. Wherever I could find water over 3 feet deep I was able to throw the chatter bait of the speed worm. Managed to get six in about 4 hours

After a disappointing morning at another small reservoir, I decided to stop by Aldrich Pond to see if I can catch a few and possibly upgrade my limit for the Toledo Area Kayak Anglers League's Spring Thaw. With in the first hour of throwing my Z-Man 3/8 of EVO in Lava Craw with a 4 1/2 in Hog Farmer Blow Torch Spunk shad, I landed a 18 inch largemouth followed by an 16.5 incher. A couple of smaller bass were caught along with 2 really nice crappie.

After a nice rain shower I jumped in the kayak and fished one of my favorite ponds in NW Ohio. I’ve avoided wake baits mostly because of cost, but the Nessie caught my eye. This was the first time using it this year. I didn’t catch many but did catch a good size one. Great bait and easy to throw on my 7’3” Dobyns MHF matched with my Shimano Curado with 20lb Izorline CoPoly.

Took the Kayak out on Aldrich Pond in Sandusky Co OH to try out a few new baits in my arsenal. The pond was full of submerged and emergent grass, much more than I have seen in the past. i began tossing a frog around but that produced nothing. When I got to an area that the grass was not up to the top of the water I pulled out the Strike King Hybrid Hunter in Clear Minnow. Within a few casts I managed three largemouth all on the small side. Made my way around the lake and seeing the amount of grass I decided to try another new technique to me, Zoom UV Speed Worm in Junebug, texas rigged on an EWG with a 1/8 oz bullet weight. This again caught a few small ones but also produced my two biggest bass, both about 15 inches.
