Caught all my fish off wood. Water was somewhat cloudy and that’s where I got most of my bites opposed to the clean water. I was pitching a homemade 1/2 ounce jig similar to the Matt Herrera flipping jig in a blue craw color and a Bojangles Z-Daddy trailer in blue craw. I’ve been using the new Mastiff flourocarbon from Shimano now for a few weeks and this trip I really put it through its paces. I was fishing in and around some fairly heavy laydowns. I did not notice any nicks or abrasions and only had to retire once out of habit. Normally in this situation I would be using at least 20 pound test. I however did not feel under powered with the 18 Mastiff.

Caught 13 bass and 7 crappies on the Vision 110 jr (FA Oikawa Metallic). Throwing on the edge of a grassline and inside some bigger holes in the grass where there was room. Dropped senkos in smaller holes in the grass and ended up catching 6 that way. Caught one on a 3/16 texas rigged scounbug in sandy flats. All bass 1-1.5lbs. Probably should have upped my size and messed with the colors but can't complain about 20 bass!

There was a tournament going on this day so many boats out on a small lake. Took the trolling motor through dense vegetation. Many bass hunting in the grass. Even more bass up shallow in the sand where the vegetation died off. However, these fish were cruising/on beds. I was working a weightless fluke through the grass, but no hits on that. Partner caught a couple on a weightless mb fat finesse work working it and jerking it through the grass. I caught two decent ones throwing my texas rigged TRD bugZ with a 3/16 flipping weight on the #1 ichikawa up into the shallow sand. I was able to sight fish where groups of them were and cast as close to the bank as I could. Hopped the texas in front of them and got two to bite. Fishing it on a 7'2 ML+ Expride and a Tatula 100. 30lb sufx 832 to 12lb Invizx but will be switching to japanese #1.5 braid, ligher leader, and a BFS spool soon.
