during the middle of the day we were successful fishing couture lines. the goal was to keep your jig between 15-18 feet of water. in the last hour of daylight we slide up shallow and caught quite a few next to the grass with a weightless fluke

After many failed attempts fishing deep and lots of graphing I finally located the shad on steep rocky banks in 6 feet or less. With less than an hour left in the day I managed to catch a 4 pounder and 3 more over 2 pounds.

Key for my fish today was fishing windblown points and shores. If there was live grass mixed with rock it would always produce a fish of varied sizes. I believe Xzone lures with their floating baits helped get more bites because the jig would sit more upright instead of lying flat in the grass and rocks.

Chasing the cleaner water, I found myself in the higher 40’s for water temp. Although the water is cold, the high sun and a warm day will absolutely draw the fish to the flats on mouths of coves near spawning bays. You may not be chasing as many bites, but the ones you get are worth putting in the boat.

Found a huge stack of fish hovering/schooling around a laydown at the end of an offshore point. Guess they were grouping up pre-spawn to make their plans for spring with the good weather here of late. Caught a quick limit with 2 fish over 18" in the kayak. Crappie and small bass around as well, caught on a small paddletail. Slow dragging the jig with a few pops here and there got the big girls to bite.

Last ice of the year, they were out chasing shad and we caught up with them. You can find on your sonar bass schooling up on Shad, you can then drop down and get one. The ice will be melted soon, but when it is you can get a good idea of where the bass will be. We were also able to use tip ups with shiners, that mimic shad and baitfish

This is from a local pond, not Big Bear. Somehow the water wasn’t frozen in 15° wind chills. Aggressive bite from 4 pounder on one of my first casts, then no bites for the next 90 minutes.
